Mongolia Circular – Guidelines on the medical examination of seafarers

The Mongolia Maritime Administration established the Marine 01/151/2024 titled “Guidelines on the medical examination of seafarers and seafarer’s medical certificate” which outlines important guidelines regarding the medical examination of seafarers and the issuance of seafarer’s medical certificate.

This Marine Circular is applicable to all seafarers working on board Mongolian flagged ships, medical practitioners, shipowners, management companies, operators, agents and other relevant parties.

The circular provides guidance for meeting the medical certification requirements under the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended, the MLC, 20026 and Mongolia’s laws and regulations. These guidelines are published within IMO’s circular STCW.7/Circular 19, which serves as an annex to this circular.

Medical certificates must genuinely reflect seafarer´s state of health, in light of the duties they are to perform onboard the Mongolian-flagged ships. Every seafarer shall hold a valid seafarer´s medical certificate.

Shipowners, Recruitment Placement Services (RPSs) and seafarers are encouraged to provide this guideline to their medical practitioners prior to and for use during medical examinations.
